Public meetings set for Savannah Comcast customer issues

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Comcast will face the public. Four meetings have been set up for customers in the Savannah area to bring their issues to Comcast representatives in person.

Thursday morning, Comcast also had to face a very fired up Savannah City Council.

New council member, John Hall, set the tone for the discussion when he told Comcast Vice President Andy Macke he was so upset with Comcast this past summer, he wrote on his Facebook page, "I hate Comcast."  The hot seat was on fire, as Comcast had to face more complaints from council members who are either current or former customers.

They were similar to complaints WTOC heard just a few weeks ago.

"My concerrn is the price that they charge for that service and quality of service we get," Sherri Ruth, Savannah, told WTOC.

"It's like, you know, are you going to feed your kids or are you going to pay your cable bill pretty much when you come down to it. That would be my biggest concern," Christopher Gibbons, Savannah, told WTOC.

With two of Comcast's head honcho's in their company, those very concerns were echoed by city council members, who also wanted to know how Savannah's rates compared to other cities in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. Alderman Tony Thomas, who has spearheaded the Comcast issue said Savannah's Comcast rates locally are not very favorable compared to other areas. Customer service, still,  is the most common complaint.

Comcast says they'll work on it.

"I am certainly dissappointed as a comcast employee and recognizing the company has made a commitment to customer service and clearly in some cases we are falling short of the mark," Andy Macke, Comcast, told WTOC.

"I'm very optimistic, very hopeful Ccomcast will take these issues seriously and come back with corrective action and that they will honor their customer guarantee which was quite a surprise to learn they had such a thing," Rochelle Small-Toney, Savannah City Manager, told WTOC.

Four public meetings have now been scheduled for the first full week in February, beginning on Feb. 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Savannah Civic Center.
